What makes a good title in 2026
- 40-60 characters. Enough to carry the claim, short enough to avoid SERP truncation.
- Include a number. Numbered titles outperform prose titles ~30% for click-through and are strong retrieval hooks.
- Include a year. Year in the title is a massive recency signal for AI assistants.
- Use a colon. The pattern "Topic: Specific Promise" is the highest-performing title shape for AI citation.
- Avoid ALL CAPS and !!! Looks spammy to both humans and AI classifiers.
